Embankment construction was a common hydraulic engineering practice for flood control and drainage of most rivers in earlier Taipei. When the demand for “waterfront” ecological preservation, recreation, and sightseeing increases following economic development and urbanization, waterfront and riversides have become the important blue-green space in the city.
In compliance with the demand for overall river flood control and drainage, waterfront environment is improved into a quality area that combines functions including flood mitigation, ecological landscape, art and culture, sports and recreation, and even environmental education, so as to build a livable space integrated into the overall surroundings for citizens.
Ecological embankments are used to connect the blue-green area by linking the new accessible circular recreational route of Sancengqi Park and the bus shelter to deliver a downshifting waterfront environment in the city for an overall environmental improvement combining the features of the natural landscape and cultural scape of Guizikeng and Beitou.
The project started on November 7, 2022 and was completed on September 25, 2023, with a total construction cost of about NT$42.73 million.
The demonstration section is 93m long. Ecological embankments are used to connect the blue-green area by linking part of the Sancengqi Park to restore the twining river course. The new circular recreational route and the bus shelter deliver a downshifting waterfront environment in the city for an overall environmental improvement combining the features of the natural landscape and cultural scape of Guizikeng and Beitou.
