Currently, the sports ground and car park have occupied most parts of Guanshan Riverside Park. As not all citizens need a sports ground, the space is thus idled when it is not in use. According to the Taipei Hydraulic Engineering Office (THEC), to build a site that is suitable for all citizens and can maintain the features of Guanshan area, a characteristic playground is planned at the green near the Tayou Door and neighboring the Guanshan Landscape Plaza. In addition to being a leisure space for citizens of all ages, this sight also allows citizens to enjoy local mountain views and the scenery of the Keelung River. As such, THEO aims to attract more citizens to visit Guanshan Riverside Park and turn it into a super popular spot for taking pictures in Taipei City.

To match the present grass slope, the Frog Cave Ecological Playground is planned as three zones: a theme playground, an ecological classroom, and a grass slope. A small tunnel in the southwest penetrates the grass slope and links to the landscape plaza. Restrooms, a footbath, vending machines, and bicycle parking are available on both service areas. The overall landscape design adopts the simulated frog footprints leading to the river. Based on the level differences of the slope, the playground sits on top of the ecological classroom, and a large grass slope in the south links to the Landscape Plaza with stairs. Playground equipment is equipped with corresponding popular science knowledge of frogs. The living environment of frogs is simulated or built in the ecological classroom. An ecological pond sitting next to the classroom is an island-type habitat for attracting frogs and other small ecosystems. In the future, different types of popular science knowledge about frogs will be provided on the interpretive signage of each facility and space for citizens to learn and understand more about the ecology and habits of frogs.
