Recreational activities have been thriving in riverside parks in Taipei City in recent years. Well-designed venues have been built there for citizens to do different kinds of sports and enjoy recreational activities. As the recreational facilities (plaza and trial) in this park are quite simple, venues for different recreational activities are planned and designed. With reference to the pump track in Benzhou Park in Taoyuan, a pump track is planned for Rainbow Riverside Park after discussion with Taiwan Parks & Playgrounds for Children by Children (TWPfC) and Taiwan Association of Mountain Bike Action (TWMBA) to provide citizens with more options for recreational activities in riverside parks. This pump track will be the largest in Taiwan after project completion. The venue will become both a training site and a competition venue to attract more players and citizens.

A pump track is designed for riders to keep cycling. It has a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping"—generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing. It was originally designed for the mountain bike and BMX scene, and now, due to concrete and/or asphalt constructions, is also used for skateboarding and in-line skating. Pump tracks are relatively simple to use and cheap to construct, and cater to a wide variety of rider skill levels. In response to the potential competition needs in the future, three types of tracks are planned. However, citizens can access any tracks for training in ordinary times for the public to understand more about the pump track sport and to make more effective use of the riverside park.
