Machangting Riverside Park
Located on the left- and right-hand sides outside Evacuation Gate 1 of the Xindian River, Machangting Riverside Park occupies an area of about 86,102m2. During Japanese colonization, Machangting was an important military facility for training soldiers and cavalry. Later, it became an "Army Airport" also called the "South Airport." After the 228 Incident, the area off the riverbank became an execution site during the White Terror period. In the 1980s, it became a "stud farm" for raising horses and training equestrians. However, it was mostly used by officials. Today, it has become a memorial park with a tomb inside to commemorate those who were executed without trial. Today, the Machangding Memorial Park is no longer as stern and somber as it was in the past. People can ride a bicycle here to enjoy the scenery of the Xindian River, watch the sunset, and walk the dog. On the gentle and spacious greenery, the laugher of frolicking children spreads, and people are sitting or lying down. In addition, entering the riverside park from the evacuation gate at Machangding at the end of Qingnian Road, the forest with straight palms in sight also enchants people with its beauty.
