Riverside Parks in Taipei

Located between the Chengde Bridge over the Keelung River and the Shuangxi River estuary, the Bailing Right Bank Riverside Park occupies an area of about 144,250m2.

The park sitting between the Chengde Bridge and the Shuangxi River estuary has a football field, a baseball field, basketball courts, a roller rink, and other fitness facilities for citizens to exercise. At the Chengde Bridge there is a graffiti wall with graffiti looking magnificent in strong sunlight. The TCPG repaints the wall every four months to provide a space for citizens to make free creations. There is also a pier in the park for fishmen to berth their boats.

Knowledge Tips

Sanjiaodu
As the last jetty in Taipei, Sanjiaodu is located by the Keelung River around Gangqian behind the Chengde Bridge. It is called Sanjia (lit. three legs) because it was the jetty corresponding to three places: Huludu, Jiantan, and Dalongdong. The dragon boats for the dragon boat competition at the Dragon Boat Festival every year under Dashi Bridge are built here. "Tiande Temple" is nearly Taiwan's unique asylum for abandoned idols. It is a moveable temple with elevation facilities.

Jiantan
There are three legends accounting for the origin of Jiantan. The first one is from Taihaishichalu (Records of Expedition to Taiwan). "Each tribe travels there in summer and autumn with canoes. About some hundred miles from the shore, there is a lake surround by towering red ciders." The second source goes: When the Dutch inserted a sword in the tree while cultivating the place, bark grew immediately to wrap up the sword, which was never recovered. The third source says: After killing a gigantic serpent in the lake, Cheng named it Jiantan (Loch Claymore). Which one will you pick?

Taipei Astronomical Museum
In the riverside park, you can see a big yellow sphere along the riverbank, the logo of the Taipei Astronomical Museum. It is the fieldtrip venue of many schools and a photography spot that one must not miss.

Taipei Children's Amusement Park
The Taipei Children's Recreation Center is the forerunner of the Taipei Children's Amusement Park. In 2007, the TCG made the overall plan and selected the site at the confluence of Shuangxi in coordination with the nearby Taipei Astronomical Museum, National Taiwan Science Education Center, Meilun Park, and Shuangxi waters, hoping to build a urban family leisure park that integrates education, leisure, recreation, and culture to provide citizens with a new option for outdoor activities.
