Rainbow Riverside Park

Riverside Parks in Taipei

Located between Zhongshan Freeway (National Highway No. 1) and the MacArthur Bridge No. 1 over the Keelung River, the Rainbow Riverside Park occupies an area of about 312,702m2. As the park is close to the Neihu Development Area, many hypermarkets and office buildings are located in the vicinity, and not many local residents exercise in the park. Compared to the Guanshan Riverside Park on the opposite bank, the Rainbow Riverside Park is quiet and unoccupied. There are not many artificial structures in the park, and the long-grass look of most riverside parks is preserved. However, there are still many fitness facilities, tennis courts, and softball fields for free use by the public. At the end that links Neihu, the Minquan Bridge, MacArthur Bridge No. 1, and MacArthur Bridge No. 2 spanning the Keelung River look quietly brilliant in the night when lights are on. Therefore, they are the favorite spots of photography lovers. The space under the freeway bridge is spacious and a great place for summer activities. The Rainbow Riverside Park is by far the best spot for watching and shooting the firework show of the Taipei 101 on every New Year's Eve. With the lighting from the MacArthur Bridge No. 1 and MacArthur Bridge No. 2, the fireworks show looks even more charming.

Knowledge Tips

Neihu
Instead of a true lake, the place was named in connection with its cultivation history by earlier settlers.  The term "Neihu" (lit. inner lake) was first found in the term "Neihu Village" in an old cultivation contract made in 1748 in the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty. In that time, there were many hills in the area forming many small basins. According to Minnan dialect: "the interior is called a lake," there are also old geonyms including "Benji Lake," "Beishi Lake," "Baishi Lake," and "Niuchou Lake" in the area.
